Mid-1st-Quarter
Brophy’s mid-1st-quarter reporting date is Thursday, September 12th.What does this mean? At each mid-quarter and quarter, we run a grade report to check on student academic progress. Though mid-quarter and quarter grades do not appear on a student’s transcript, they are good benchmarks of how a student is achieving in his classes, in this case at roughly the 25% point of the semester. If your son is struggling in one or more classes, please have him reach out to his teacher(s) to ask about how to improve, and/or attend office hours to ask for extra help or clarity. Furthermore, Brophy’s Academic Resource Center (ARC) is available before and after school in Loyola Hall as a quiet study space, and there is a Math teacher available M-Th after school to help students with Math questions. The ARC staff can also help find student tutors as well for those Broncos who may want more long-term help in certain subjects. Finally, any student who has two Ds or one F on that mid-quarter grade report on September 12 will be ineligible for all student athletics and activities between September 15th-22nd while he focuses on raising his grades.
Academic Skill and Test Prep Through Ray Dass
In an effort to offer our students extra academic skill and standardized test prep, Brophy is excited to continue its partnership with Ray Dass. This program, at no cost to students, introduces Ray Dass’ award-winning SARA program into English and Math classes. 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are being asked to set up SARA accounts within English and Math classes, which will give those students access to the online program that includes reading, writing and math sections which will both build academic skills and also offer important test-taking preparation for PSAT, SAT and ACT tests. If they have yet to do that, please encourage them to do so (their teachers should have given them information this past week). Higher scores on these tests can help students with university admissions and university scholarship opportunities.
The program is designed for students to work at their own pace, though on average, if they put 30-60 minutes into the SARA program each week, they should finish the program’s goal for their level within the year. Though any SARA work will be beneficial to students, the program scaffolds over three years, so the class of 2028 will see the full three-year benefit heading into their senior year. Students are encouraged to work through their SARA sections on their own, at their own pace. There is no grade given for SARA work, but this is a wonderful opportunity at no cost for students to receive skill and test prep that through other providers can cost hundreds of dollars. We strongly encourage parents to partner with us in directing students to do some SARA work each week. There will also be other no-cost boot camp preparation programs for Brophy students as SAT, ACT and AP tests approach. More information to come (below for upcoming AP exams), but you can see the Ray Dass programming guide for Brophy here.
Dual Enrollment
A few courses at Brophy are available for community college credit through Rio Salado College’s Dual Enrollment Program. Teachers whose classes are eligible will announce that to their students, but you can also view the program description and available courses on Brophy’s home page here.
The BEAST Job Board is LIVE!! You may view all available positions here; a Brophy email account must be used to complete any applications. Brophy’s Bronco Essential Assistance and Support Team program enables all students to have on-campus job opportunities during the fall and spring semesters. Any funds earned may be used to assist with tuition, sports fees, immersion trips, or in The Corral.
